Highlands County Republicans will hold their next monthly meeting on Thursday May 9th at 6:30 pm at the Inn on the Lakes in Sebring. Our Guest Speaker will be Kevin Roberts, a candidate for the Highlands County Commission District 1. Kevin is the Chairman of the Champion for Children Foundation and the prior CEO for 23 years and Founder of the organization. Dinner (optional) is available in the conference room from 5-6 pm. Bio for Kevin Roberts
Kevin Roberts currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Champion for Children Foundation, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that he established in 1994. For 23 years (1994-2017), Kevin served as the CEO / Founder of this “non-profit” and under his guidance and leadership, many remarkable, community-wide initiatives were established, including the Children Advocacy Center; Safe-house for battered women; Ila and Kinsley Cox Living Memorial Fund (assistance for seriously ill or injured children or parents); Champion for Children Circle Theater; Emergency Rescue Fund; Vision Quest for Children; Actions for Autism; and Highlands Youth Academy. These result-producing programs have changed the landscape of Highlands County, and have positively impacted the lives of thousands of children and families.
Additionally, Kevin has 16 years of management and administrative experience with Highlands County government, serving as the Director of Human Services for the Board of County Commission. Through his work with the county, Kevin gained tremendous insight into the inner workings of county government while overseeing the county’s health and human service programs.
Earlier employment in Kevin’s professional career included 18 years with the Florida Department of Children and Families, seven (7) of those years in management.
Throughout his career, Kevin has been honored with numerous leadership awards and honors. A few that he is especially proud of include: Humanitarian Award (1995) by Men of Vision; Child Advocate of the Year Award (1997) by Children’s Home Society; Citizen of the Year (1998) by Avon Park Chamber of Commerce; Voted Top Citizen by News-Sun (1999); Peace at Home – 1st place – awarded by Governor Jeb Bush (2005); Citizen of the Year (2007) by United Way; Proclamation – Outstanding Community Service (2007) by Highlands County Commission; Historic Preservation Award (2014) by Daughters of the American Revolution; Soaring Eagle Award (2014) by the Boy Scouts of America; Citizen of the Year Award (2015) by Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce.
On a personal level, Kevin earned a bachelor’s degree in 1972, and a Master’s degree in 1981. He has been happily married to Debbie Allison Roberts for 47 years. He is particularly proud of his 6 grandchildren, and his 3 daughters and son-in-law: Hollie Roberts, Kati Pippin, Amy and Eric Zwayer. In his spare time, Kevin teaches American History to his grandchildren, and worships at Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring.
