Highlands County Republicans will hold their next monthly meeting on Thursday November 14th at 6:30 pm at the inn on the Lakes in Sebring. Our Guest Speakers will by the the two announced candidates for the Highlands County Commission District 5 seat, Vicki Pontius and the current incumbent Commissioner R. Greg Harris. Vicki Pontius
Candidate for County Commissioner District 5
Vicki Pontius was the Parks and Recreation Director since 1998 and worked for the Board of County Commissioners since 1983 before retiring in 2016. She holds professional certifications with the Florida Recreation and Parks Association and the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. She served on the Board of Directors for the Florida Aquatic Plant Management Society for three years and also as President.
Currently, Ms. Pontius is a licensed real estate agent, a member of the Highlands County Republican Executive Committee, the Highlands County Historical Society, the Highlands County Health Insurance Committee and the Tourist Development Council. Vicki has been married to her husband Rick, for 34 years and has 2 daughters, Jenna-30, and Alexis-26. She also has 3 grandchildren; Joseph 7, Rylee 2, and Josiah 3 months, and a granddaughter, Mackenzie, due in October.
Greg Harris
Candidate for reelection as County Commissioner District 5
Commissioner R. Greg Harris, District 5, has lived in Sebring for over 25 years and is seeking reelection. He was first elected to the Highlands County Commission in 2012. He came to Highlands County in 1985 with his father to develop the Country Club of Sebring. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
Commissioner Harris’s past experience includes Real Estate Broker, Community Association Manager, Class C Utility Operator, Certified Food Manager, and a State Residential Contractor. He attends Bible Fellowship Church, is a member of the Sebring Sunrise Rotary Club, Sebring Firemen, Inc. and is a United Way board member and a former Eagle Scout.
Commissioner Harris is married to wife Janet and together they have two daughters.
